Richard Humphries
Owner, Sound Designer and Mixer
Award winning Sound Editor, Designer and Mixer, Richard Humphries, has been mixing documentaries and commercials since 1992. Most recently he was a senior mixer and sound designer for The Discovery Channel. Richard has set out on his own to fulfill his lifelong dream of studio ownership—and to better serve his past, present and future clients.
Nicholas Karlin
Sound Designer and Mixer
Alumnus of Omega Studios’ School of Applied Recording Arts and Sciences, Nicholas Karlin has been working diligently to be more than just your average audio engineer. Recently operating as a Pro Tools editor in Nashville, TN, Nicholas has brought his talents, new ideas and strong work ethics to Takoma Media with a goal to provide a fresh and refined voice to each new project.

Located right in downtown Silver Spring, MD., we are easily accessible by car and are a short distance from the metro. We're about 10 minutes inside the beltway, at the Georgia Ave exit, and 25 minutes from downtown Washington, DC.

These days a good portion of our work is done remotely. We'll give you access to our FTP site where you can upload an OMF and a Quicktime. We'll work on your project while you do the million other things that you have on your plate. When we are done, we can either send you an approval copy, or you can come in and approve the program on site.
Facility
Mix one includes the industry standard Protools 10HD capable of mixing in surround. It's equipped with an Avid MC Control and an Avid MC mix and Blackmagic Design HD video. This suite is a comfortable 11 feet x 19 feet.
Mix two is a cozy 15 feet by 12 feet and is running Protools 10HD and also capable of mixing in surround and outputting Dolby E to tape. It's equipped with the Avid MC Control and the Blackmagic Design 3D extreme video option.
Mix three is a mirror image of Mix one, also about 11x19 and also running Protools 10HD, but it is currently configured for stereo mixes only.
We also have an 100 square foot record booth and a large variety of microphones.
We provide mixing in both stereo and surround.
We also have a full complement of video decks for layback including HDCam and IMX, as well as DAT and DA-88.
Our sound effects library is massive! Over 200,000 individual sound effects-- more than 1 TeraByte of data. Many effetcs are custom created by us, and the collection keeps growing.
There are several media companies in the same building: Blue Sky Films, FogoMotion, Visualante, Lucky Dog Films and Hyperactive Productions.
