Richard Humphries

Founder, Sound Designer and Re-recording Mixer

Award winning Sound Editor, Designer and Re-recording mixer, Richard Humphries, has been mixing documentaries and commercials since 1992. Previous to opening Takoma Park Media Group, he was a senior mixer and sound designer for The Discovery Channel.

Audio has been Richard’s passion from an early age; inspired by accompanying his father, a pianist and conductor, to his recording sessions at Sound 80 in Minneapolis, MN. He took his first audio course in Sound Synthesis from the Milwaukee Conservatory of Music at the age of 13. He considers himself lucky to have always known what he wanted to do as a career.

In addition to working with audio, Richard considers himself a lifelong learner and tinkerer. He has studied electronics, woodworking, oil painting, foreign languages, 3D printing, and more. He enjoys travelling, has bicycled from Washington DC to Pittsburgh, and always has a recorder with him to capture that unexpected unusual sound for his library.

Location

Formerly located in the Takoma neighborgood of Washington DC, (hence the name) and then  in Silver Spring, MD for 15 years…

… We are now as close as your Internet connection.

These days a good portion of our work is done remotely. We’ll send you a link to a folder where you can upload your AAF and reference video. We’ll work on your project while you do the million other things that you have on your plate. When we are done, we will send you a review copy, and the final files once the mix is approved.
